Managing Director Profile

Ray King

Ray King is the Managing Director of Leadership Management UK, the UK’s foremost training and development company. He established the business in 1997 with a vision of becoming the best provider of management and personal development, leadership skills and sales training provider in the UK and developing people to their full potential.

Ray King has been a vanguard of the business world for the majority of his career; it is this knowledge and experience of all aspects of commerce that makes him an ideal role model during the development process when clients are navigating the complicated waters of the corporate world.

During his school years Ray was interested in industrial design and at one time wanted to pursue this at the Royal College of Art in Kensington. Instead he chose engineering as a profession before applying for a post in Sales, which led to the discovery his unique ability to interact and motivate people.

In the early stages of his career, he moved to Johannesburg in South Africa and spent two years there becoming National Sales Manager. During that time he gained the attention of an American distribution company called Graco. With no fixed plans to stay in South Africa, he chose to move to Hong Kong where Graco had set up a division. While working in Hong Kong, Ray was approached by an Australian company that wanted him to take lead of their Sales Division and it was during this time he was first introduced to LMI and was inspired by their philosophy on enhancing success through personal development.

By now Ray had a respectable and valued reputation in the international sales community and felt it was time to return to the city that he thrived in, Hong Kong, where he took a role overseeing the South East Asia and China region’s of the business. His expertise was remarkable, doubling the business’s profit margin within the first year and Ray continued to work in this position successfully for the next ten years.

However, Ray’s goal was ultimately to own his own business so after his contract in Hong Kong ended he moved back to England and set up an engineering agency using his many contacts in the business world, particular in Germany. Within months of being back in the UK, Ray had won a major contract with a television manufacturer. His business was thriving but he had still not forgotten LMI who now approached him with a proposal to set up the UK sector of the LMI group.

Ray believes that the definition of success is the realisation of worthwhile personal goals, “Today everything is stressful rather than convenient and practical. I endeavour to work with people and not lecture them.” He explains. “People want balance, but also a challenge. They need just one or two ideas to help them be more effective.”

So can LMI deliver above their competitors? “Absolutely", agrees Ray. "We can do this because we focus on the whole aspect and the reward is the results we achieve."

"Training of any kind should be an investment. No one is a lost cause.” Ray concludes. “The purpose of LMI-UK is not to fix the problems in a business but to develop their people so that they can fix the problems."
